The Guatemalan coup d’état in 1954 was an United States Central Intelligence Agency operation called Operation SUCCESS which started on June 18 1954 . This operation was to overthrow the supposed communist President Jacobo Árbenz who was voted into his position by the Guatemalan people . This was planned for a long time to come. An early document in the CIA Database on this operation dates back to January 11, 1952 which was two years and a few months before the actual coup d’état. The document talks out plans about going until they were going to use to take down President Arbenz regime and that they give orders that they according of probable on able to take out Arbenz. These groups are in order of strength; group 1 is led by Colonel Castillo Armas, group 2 was led by Colonel Arturo Ramirez in Mexico and last group supporters of General Ydigoras Fuentes. In the document it notes that the first two are, having been contacted but no agreement at this point. The very same document also talks about what was going on in Guatemala at the time like political situation, what the communist and anti-communist where up to and economic situation. We can now talk about on to the ones who mastermind the coup d’état based on the evidence that I found. Who was the United Fruit Company exactly? To understand what is going on with this company, we have to start at the beginning of it. United Fruit Company was a tropical fruit company located in the Latin American. This company was coming into being due to the merger between Minor C. Keith and Boston Fruit Company in 1899 . This merger happens because they saw the profit that could be made working to together. Boston Fruit had the Caribbean islands and had the market in the northeastern part of the United States . While Keith had his fruit coming from Colombia and Central America and he had his market in the south of the United States, New Orleans to Mobile . So these companies coming together were a logical choice at the time. Now how did a simple company that does trade of tropical fruit for United State mastermind a government overthrow
