Prometheus feels as if the Council has never experienced this kind of invention, and wants to make that happen “But we think that the Council of Scholars is blind” (Rand 52). Prometheus expects that once the Council sees the pride he had to create and invent a great discovery, they will see the potential he has of becoming a member of the Home of the Scholars, finally having a place he fits in and could accomplish more inventions at by reading more books “Tomorrow, in the light of day, we shall take our box, and leave our tunnel open, and walk through the streets to the Home of the Scholars. We shall put before them the greatest gift ever offered to men. We shall tell them the truth. We shall hand to them, as our confession, these pages we have written. We shall join our hands to theirs, and we shall work together, with the power of the sky, for the glory of mankind” (Rand 67). This shows how Prometheus wanted to have acceptance from the World Council of Scholars since he never felt like he belonged in the society he is living in. In Anthem, the government had been controlling the citizens on how to act and behave. For instance, the Council has made clear that dependency before independency, always be with your brothers or sisters, and follow their laws or else face the consequences. In addition, this society tries to wipe out each individual’s mind (and self) by squashing personal choices, desires, and values “This is the time each spring when all the men older than twenty and all the woman older than eighteen are sent for one night to the city Palace of Mating. And each of the men have one of the women as signed to them by the Council of Eugenics” (Rand 41), and “For all must agree with all, and they cannot know if their thoughts are the thoughts of all, and so they fear to speak” (Rand 47). In comparison, all two quotes show how manipulative the government is on lives, and do anything they can from stopping people of having feelings, opinions, and most of all, becoming an individual. Fearing of their entire system built will disrupt based on that one person, they feel as if other men and women would become followers; like the expression, “Monkey See, Monkey Do”, and should find ways to stop that from happening, for example killing
