An extensive research was conducted to answer the question; How can the procedure of LASIK eye surgery be modified to prevent the potential side effects? This question is attempted answer through various research methods such as interviews with experts and relevant secondary research. Laser Vision Correction is a great alternative to glasses and contact lenses. The three main types of Laser Vision Correction are LASIK, PRK and LASEK (Thompson, 2016). The Laser Vision Correction procedure corrects the vision by reshaping the cornea in front of the eye in order to increase the focusing capacity and correct the refractive errors (Flaum, 2002). The LASIK eye surgery is considered to be the current most popular refractive surgery of all (Thompson, 2016). Approximately 99% of the patients are satisfied with their surgery and around 98% are able to drive without the use of glasses or contact lenses (Vision Eye Institute, 2013). Despite this high success rate, there are many complications and side effects of the procedure. This report is focused on the findings of the research that was undertaken to determine improvements in the LASIK eye surgery method to obviate the complications.

LASIK is used to treat Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism (Wachler, 2016). Myopia, usually known as nearsightedness, where the focal point of the eye is in front of the retina causing distant images to be blurred (Bailey, 2012). Opposite to nearsightedness, farsightedness is also a common refractive error which is medically termed as Hyperopia. A patient suffering from Hyperopia is not able to clearly see nearby images as the focal point is located behind the retina (AOA, n.d.). LASIK also treats Astigmatism which is caused due to abnormal curving of the surface of the eye which leads to blurred vision (Boyd,
