A synthetic material which has high tensile strength and used in manufacturing of tires and also as a reinforcement agent in manufacturing of protective parts like helmet etc…,
HISTORY
In 1930’s a chemical company called DuPont prepared commercially succeful super polyamide. Actually in 1964 Stephanie kwolek discovered kevlor in DuPont laboratory while doing research on the high performance chemical compounds. Kevlor is patented Stephanie kwolek in 1966 which is used by many police officers as bullet proof vests because of its light weight and corrosive resistance.
Stephanie Kwolek was born in 1923 in New Kensington Pennsylvania after graduating from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1946 she went to DuPont Company where she discovered kevlor and had 28 patents till her 40 years tenure research scientist. Actually she was working with poly-p-phenylene-terephthalate and polybenzamide.

Cutting and shaping of kevlor is very difficult we need special tool and equipment and techniques for development of kevlor parts. Kevlor is a bad condector of U.V rays and sunlight and when it exposed to chlorine. The fibers them selves obsrvs mosture,so kevlor composites are more senstive to envirment then glass or graphite composites all the tensile and modulus are high compressive properties are comparitively poor. This makes kevlor composites week under loads kevlor is very diffcult to cut, need special sesors to cut and special drill bits. This makes diffcult to construct and also time consuming process.producing kevlor requires lot of energy and has toxic
