Subjective: The client reports that he first noticed his mood swings at the age of 23 when he began graduate school. The client did not want to do graduate work but did so to stay with his wife. The client states that he brushed these emotions off as normal for the situation he was in, as he was initially unwilling to place himself in that situation. However, the client states that the intensity of his sadness was abnormal; at times, he was unable to get out of bed or have a conversation with his wife. The client reports that after a while, the moods lifted and he would go back to being his normal self. The client states that after being stable for a while he experienced a feeling of “total euphoria” (Getzfeld, 2004, p. 76), in which he had no worries.
