His father wanted him to get good greats in school but, his illness did not allow him to do that at the time. Gacy eventually dropped out of high school not being able to fully get approval of his father. He decided to move out of his parents’ house not wanting to deal with if father’s behavior much longer. He moved to a different part of the city and began to take part in his community. He joined the Junior Chamber of Commerce where he organized groups and ideas that benefited the general public. He found himself meeting with politicians and getting recognition in his community. Gacy became willing to volunteer for many things but, always wanted to be recognized for it. He enjoyed seeing his name in the newspaper and took great pride in his community work. John’s life was improving in a major way. He finally felt like he belonged to something. He met Marlynn Myers, a woman whose family was very well off, who he married and had a child with. This news was what John’s father needed to hear to finally accept John as a man. Gacy picked the young boy up at a bus station and took him around Chicago to see the sites. Gacy told the boy he could spend the night at his house and Gacy would make sure he made it to the bus station on time in the morning. When Gacy awoke he found the boy in the bedroom with a knife in his hand. MaCoy did surrender but Gacy charged the boy and then MaCoy cut Gacy’s arm. Gacy beat the young man throwing him against his bedroom wall and stabbing him many times in the chest. Gacy then claimed that he walked into the kitchen after the murder and saw that Macoy had just make a large breakfast for the two of them. Gacy then stashed the boy in the crawl space of his house. This did not hider Gacy’s involvement in the community. He did not keep to himself after the murder of the young boy but, instead continued the growth of his business. His killing and sex craze from young men did not stop growing either. The murder of a teenage by the name of Robert Piest was very gruesome. While Gacy was working at a drugstore be offered Robert Peist, a young boy man who worked there, a job with his construction company. He asked Peist to accompany him to his house a few towns over too sign some contracts for his future job at his construction company.
