White's family is in the minority in their new town, and poverty is surrounding them. White moves into the poor Californian Latino school as a teacher and assistant football coach. During gym class, White realizes some of the boys are very gifted at running. In an effort to help the kids, he quits his assistant coaching job and restarts the old cross country program that was cut a few years back. As coach White begins to build relationships with the runners he realizes these kids not only struggle at school but also back home. Many of them work hard long days in the ?filed field? just to support their families, so there is no time for education. Jim White not only gives the kids a place to be their best on the course but gives them hope for a future.
