Jainism derives from the Sanskrit word "ji" meaning to "conquer." It refers to the monks and the belief that they must conquer any bodily functions and desires. Those who have reached enlightenment are called "jinas" which directly translates to "conqueror."
Jainism has developed over time but mostly stays with India. However, in recent years, many Jains have migrated to Western countries and settled there. It is estimated that there are currently 4 million Jains, predominantly living in India.
