My Purpose Statement According to Yagelski (2015) ‘Comparative analysis is not just a manner of comparing two things’. The purpose of this paper is to compare, synthesize and rhetorically analyze the following two articles ‘Indian Education by Sherman Alexie and The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara. We will look at the separate ideas, themes or elements into a coherent new idea while comparing the articles. It is an in-depth understanding of the two core reading topics of importance to writer and the readers. Alexie `s school experiences as a young teenager was basically to project and bring his reader close to his ordeals while Toni Cade address how knowledge is the means by which one can escape out of poverty in her story the lesson. As we go down the trail of this paper we will affirm on the similarities and the contradictory aspect of their write up. Both writers delve into the conceptional aspect of life, sometimes growing up we experience situation that can change our perception on life. Especially when situation happen unexpectedly. Indian Education projects the writer’s ideas and reservations while growing up while the lesson touched into the struggle of a girl, Sylvia who realizes the economic and social injustice surrounding her. However, with the help of miss Moore, Silvia comes to grip with the issues and came out to overcome it. Alexie in his ‘Indian Education’ fought through his personal experience in the article and later overcome the ordeals that was befall him and narrated it on a step of grades. Alexie reservations are all in his experiences and ordeal while in school relating it to how it affected his life while growing up. Coming from a poor background, Alexie did not let it ruin his carrier. Toni was born and raised at black community where she observed the same racism, mistreat and oppressed of the people in the black community. Life lesson were often tough by older, wiser or formally educated people within the community. This idea still holds true today, especially in low- income community as illustrated in the story ‘The Lesson’.
