An Every Day Battle
There is no denying that as the society grows and develops more and more every day, obesity keeps being a serious and life threatening medical situation. Childhood obesity no longer forms part of a small percentage in the statistics of the country, instead, is considered the number one disease found in the young population. For many people obesity is a lost cause and for others is not a disease just a lifestyle, without realizing how preventable obesity is, the potential consequences that this type of behavior can bring into one’s life and society overall, are catastrophic.

Exercises are an important part of our everyday growing, contributes to a healthier life and to strong muscles, but why is it that sports are not so popular anymore? Technology is the reason. Children around the world prefer to enjoy some free time in front of a computer screen or television, playing games that promote violence, instead of going outside to share a moment with friends, playing soccer, tennis or just doing some running around. Any physical activity, no matter how small it is, leads to a longer life. Moving on from playing soccer in the park, and entering again the world of books and homework, one starts to realize how little exercise kids do in school. With so many sports to choose around, it seems weird and inadequate that students don’t have so many physical activities. As a curriculum class, there is P.E which normally would cover the “exercise” topic, instead students consider P.E as a boring class, a necessity, since one can’t graduate without it. This class does involve exercise, and there are different sports in it, but since students consider school as a calamity, anything that revolves around it, loses importance. Since the beginning, when school starts, every class taken has a purpose, either to have more credits or for graduation, or simply to graduate early, never once a class has been taken for fun or just to experiment something one, and clearly this needs to change. Schools should consider adding more classes that deal with the importance of sports, by changing the approach students may reconsider taking this type of classes just for fun and not because a high school diploma depends on it. Some free time in a student’s schedule would be perfect for trying a new sport like chess or wrestling, either way, is clear that in order for schools to have healthier students that are involved in
