My curiosity of Japan was sparked at a young age when I first watched Japanese media on the television. By hitchhiking across Europe from England-to-Lithuania, I gained knowledge of differing cultures, cities, and peoples. For example, the Netherlands and Poland are both members of the EU, yet the Netherlands is urban and metropolitan, while Poland has a large open countryside and more traditional attitudes. I would not have learned this if I did not engage with my transporters and made an effort to overcome the language barriers of the countries. Furthermore, through travelling to Dubai and being immersed in Muslim culture, I gained an appreciation of how different religions have a distinct impact on the daily lives of people. For example, you immediately notice the difference between Christian and Muslim hemispheres from segregated public transport and being unable to buy pork. I approached these distinctions with an open mind and embraced all the situations I encountered. For example, during university I was facilitating and guiding revision sessions for exams. As our group passed with good grades, I believe that collaboration with guidance is an excellent teaching tool. As an ALT, I want to encourage this type of behaviour as it builds a foundation of self-awareness, independence, and creativity, into the students. To achieve this, I would like to act as a guide to the students, organising, and guiding group work so they feel secure in developing their skills with support. Beyond this, I would also help the teacher by sharing information on students’ progress, further communicating the teaching aims and objectives, and ultimately adapting to the policy and procedures of the school that I would be placed
