I currently possess some of these traits, although I will need to develop them further. I have good communication skills as my current part- time job is customer service based. This means that it involves interacting with customers on a daily basis. I believe my communication skills are good as my role is not on a face-to-face basis so I need to rely on pitch and tone (Mehrabian, 1972). I also believe that I can be sensitive, have tact and be diplomatic as I work in a job where medical conditions are often discussed, this means that I have learned to deal with sensitive information appropriately and with tactfully. I also volunteered in my last year of school in the support for learning centre in my school. This meant that I got to see first hand how educational psychologists deal with children and young people with issues such as dyslexia and autism. I believe that this has helped me learn how to work with young people with types of issues such as these in a appropriate way without being patronising and condescending. However, there are some traits that I believe that I would have to develop further to pursue this career in the future. However, unlike what I previously thought, they come into contact with children of differing social, behavioural and developmental levels. When researching the role, I found that educational psychologists are beneficial to the educational system and to the lives of children and young people. They have helped reform education in a way that has helped young people excel in an academic setting. Although I found many obstacles to pursuing educational psychology, I have surprisingly found that it has not impacted in me wanting to pursue a different career. In fact, it has made me more determined to try and achieve this profession. Finally, I have found that using the Gibbs’ reflective cycle (1988) has helped me put my thoughts and feelings into a logical structure and has made me aware that this is a profession that I am deeply interested
