When taking positions on controversial topics, I like to use science and particularly lessons I have learned through my biology classes. Issues rooted in pop culture are difficult due to the integrated nature of the issue into our lives especially via social media. As certain actions become social norms, I have to decide what is bad and then go against my human nature to want to follow said norms. Celebrities are figureheads in today’s culture and are becoming an authority people look to for finding truth. Ron Mock said it well on page 25 when he said, “She cannot be a mere mouthpiece for an impersonal body of lore. She will add her own personality to the mix, her own perceptions of descriptive facts and her own judgements about more oughts.” Celebrities add their own personality to their advice. Due to our affinity to follow authority figures in society, we watch and listen to what they do and try to mimic it. However, my education at George Fox and my faith gave me ways to sift, determine truth, and make decisions about American pop culture. For the remainder of my life, I will use the tools I have obtained through my career at George Fox to analyze pop culture/issues to formulate my definition of truth before I change in correspondence with the ever changing American pop
