The Trans-Atlantic slave trade consisted of Triangular Trade, which was divided in three stages. The first stage consisted of taking manufactured goods such as cloth, beads, cowrie shells, rum, salt, metal goods, and guns. These goods would be taken to Africa, where they would be traded for slaves. The second stage, also called the Middle Passage, was the taking of slaves by ship to the Americas. Most slaves taken to the Americas came from the West African Coast. One of the first countries to start the Triangular slave trade was Portugal. It transported around 4.5 million slaves in total through the middle passage. The third stage was returning to Europe with what was gathered from the labor of the slaves for instance:sugar, cotton, tobacco, and more. There are many ways to distinguish slavery from other human rights violations. An individual is considered a slave whenever they are forced to work, bought or sold or owned by someone. This thought began since the historical slavery and it’s still adopted nowadays. Today, there are three main types of slavery. The first is labor slavery, which involves dishwashers, farming, ranching, and much more. The second is sex slavery, which about 22% of slaves today are trapped in forced prostitution sex slavery. The third one is child slavery, in which about 26% of slaves today are children. Like slaves in history, they cost money. During historical slavery, a slave was worth about forty thousand dollars in today’s money, since it was hard to capture slaves. Today a slave is worth about ninety dollars, making them cheap and disposable. One of the reasons why people continue with slavery is the desire of the human race to own. Also, some individuals believe that without owners, slaves would not be able to take care of themselves. During historical slavery, a slave was considered an investment.
