Near the southern boarders of Ontario, where America and Canada had met there boundaries over the Niagara escarpment. He needed a solution to this possible outcome; he had to assemble plans quickly before any conflicts started. Eventually, his decision to emigrate people from other countries would help overflow the population rate and lessen the chances of an American invasion. In order to proceed, he hired a responsible businessman from Manitoba, named Clifford Sifton. Mr. Sifton was a Canadian politician best known for being Minister of the Interior under Sir Wilfred Laurier. Mr. Sifton was going to be responsible for the rules and the expectation of Canadian immigrates. His most collective potentials for all candidates would be “capable farmers, familiar with harsh climates, willing to do hard work, and most predominantly being able to speak English or Britain.” If people did not meet these expectations they would have less chances of admitting to live in Canada. Immigration was a smart way to help protect Canadians and help the Canadian government to get rich. For example, Canadians really wanted anyone who was intelligent and educated to immigrate to Canada. However, the main goal was to attract people to immigrate to Canada by advertising and having major pull factors to make other people want to live in Canada. For instance, Canadians made ads and posters worldwide after the Yukon gold rush to attract more people to migrate hastily. The Canadian government thought by advertising and producing more pull factors, it would attract people from other rich countries to come to Canada resulting Canada having to get more people with growing wages. Canadians alleged the “Yukon gold rush (1897-1899); Completion of the first continental railway (CPR 1885) and building of other lines; Closing of the American frontier; New developments in dry land farming; Canadian government’s first concentrated policy to promote immigration.” These factors did definitely bring more people to immigrate to Canada. This policy was a way to close the threat of the American frontier and open up doors to a new and approved Canada.
