ISIS Terrorism
ISIS, the infamous sunni muslim terror organization, is a name heard frequently on the news. The group came to prominence after the the civil war in Syria. Once apart of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda led by Osama Bin Laden, ISIS has split off into its own entity in hopes of creating a Caliphate containing all the muslims of the world. Their response to people who do not identify with their muslim ideals is usually with violence, not refraining from utilising torture and mass murder to establish dominance in the territories they seize. They bask in attention and recognition received from the terrorist attacks they have imposed on the international level. …show more content…
Prior to this attack, there were a couple minor attacks by ISIS in our county that were able to be well contained by authorities, and while unsettling the attempts were futile with low victim fatalities and the perpetrators being killed. This shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando was different in the fact it caught American citizens vulnerable and off guard. In the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since the 9/11 attacks in 2001, ISIS terrorist Omar Mateen killed 49 people and wounded 53 others. The victims were primarily of Hispanic descent and were individuals identifying as LGBT. Mateen entered the nightclub and opened fire, also threatening to detonate bombs. A three hour standoff ensued between Mateen and authorities until Mateen was finally pronounced dead at the scene. This allowed police and paramedics to tend to the injured and deceased inside the nightclub, which was now in ruins. Motives for the shooting all point to Mateen’s pledged allegiance to ISIS.
The horrific attacks mentioned are just two of many connected to the terrorist organization known as ISIS. Worldwide forces have now begun to collaborate in order to silence this group bent on killing humanity. Unfortunately we have not yet seen the last of ISIS, however American troops are stationed at the city of Mosul in hopes of mitigating the violence of ISIS by attacking them at their source, which …show more content…
