8th December 2016 Hypothermia Hypothermia is described as a life threating condition in which the body’s core temperature falls below 95ºF (Gulli). Hypothermia can cause the body to lose heat faster than it can produce which leads to quivering and shaking of the body. Back in the year 2012, Europe had more than 650 lives were taken away; most of them were frozen to death (Kostigen). Some of the most beneficial tips in curing hypothermia is finding a blanket and drink something warm to help cause the temperature to rise. Inadequate food intake leading to a weight that is clearly too low. Intense fear of weight gain, obsession with weight and persistent behavior to prevent weight gain, amount of heat lost. Some of the examples is alcohol intoxication, in regards to low blood sugar and anorexia. If you are not dressing accordingly to the weather that also will increase your chances too. People who hypothermia is more frequently to have an anorexia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is a serve disorder potentially life-threatening eating disorder characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss (dictionary.com). Many people who have this condition have to be under some time of serious monitoring. They should also be removed from the cold weather immediately. Whether or not I they are unconscious or not, you should never give them food. One interesting fact is that alcohol plays as a vasodilator which increases the risk factor even higher. A vasodilator is medicines that act directly on muscles in blood vessel walls to make blood vessels widen dilate (Ditionary).
As a result, hypothermia is a serious condition that more people should be aware about instead of taking it so lightly. Reflecting back on some of its history tied to it would be military campaigns. It states that, “ Hannibal’s loss nearly half of his men in the Second Punic War(218 B.C to the near destruction of Napoleon’s armies in Russia in 1812 (Roblox.com).” Some of the victims to die due to hypothermia were used as an experiments to be performed on. For instance, some assistants thought that if they threw them in boiling hot water they would rewarm up their body temperature
