According to the Oxford dictionary, the definition of human rights is the basic right of
freedom, equality, justice, etc. Over the past decade, attention to human rights in Indonesia
has been improving. However, the human rights of disabled people in Indonesia are still far
from satisfactory. People with disabilities want to be productive members of society. They
want to be included in the general school system, to live independently in the society, to vote,
to move freely, to be employed, to participate in sport and cultural activities, to enjoy social

fair treatment from the society. Generally, the society avoids the disabled people from their
life. The reason is simple because they do not want to get negative effects from the
appearance of the disabled people in their life. Disabled people face discrimination and
barriers that restrict them from participating in society on an equal basis with others every
day. They are denied their rights to be included in the general school system, to be employed,
to participate in sport and cultural activity, etc. The more ironic situation is sometimes the
discrimination not only comes from the society, but also come from their own family. Across
Indonesia, there is a widespread belief that disabled condition is the result of possession by
evil spirits or the devil. As a result, the family of disabled people typically first consults faith
or traditional healers. This is usually happening in people with mental illness (psychosocial

The other problem is the number of teacher for disabled people in Indonesia is
very low. The government of Indonesia should hire more teacher with disabilities, who
can better understand the needs of the children in their class. Disabled people also need
training besides formal education. The training will help them to improve their skill.
Formal education and training have a big impact on their ability to find work and
contribute to society.
3. Special facilities
The government of Indonesia has to improve the facilities for disabled people. People
with a different type of disabilities require a different type of facilities. For blind, hearing
and touch are the key senses. In this case, guiding block (yellow blocks with special
patterns fixed on pavements to indicate intersection or transition) are needed. In Kuala
Lumpur, they have them on monorail station, so a blind people can get in and out of the
monorail entirely by themselves. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the guiding blocks are still
not ideal. Most of the guiding blocks in Indonesia are broken, so it is useless. The
government should build toilet with a standard width that allows entry for people in a
