For instance, Greg’s father wants him to study for better grades instead of being able to play ball, he disobediently goes off, “[checks] for traffic and [makes] a dash across the street” (Myers 1). In other words, Greg wants to get away from what is forced from him and he dealt with this situation by aimlessly and rebelliously walking down the streets. Most humans sometimes stray away from what is expected by others to cope with the different things they are facing, whether it be perilous, discouraging, or frustrating. Additionally, Lemon Brown desperately protects his valuables and Greg by hurling “his body down the stairs at the men who [has] come to take his treasure” (Myers 4). As readers can realize, he acts out of the urge that unless he acted quickly, Lemon Brown’s treasures and the child he is fond of would be hurt or taken away from him. People will do anything they can do to defend their loved ones or their greatest values, like Lemon Brown, and it is in their human nature to desperately try to do something. Pursuing this further, the narrator, afraid, hides from her bad memories and breakup, and “only [manages] one step out the apartment” (Ferrari 2). Like shown by the narrator, some people try to overcome their feelings by shutting themselves from the world and not actually trying to solve the problems that they are facing. She is afraid to step out into the real world where she can encounter her lost love and feels that she is not ready to become stronger by beating her concerns. Moreover, Marcia, the neighbor, creates a haven where atlases “and pocket guides [lay] open on the dining table,” (Ferrari 2) and pretends to travel even though she is scared to. Obviously, Marcia wants to protect herself from the world, but in wanting to travel and visit other places, decorates her house like she has and pretends that she is adventurous. Humans like to make the feeling or tend to want things that they cannot or will not achieve, and so will create an illusion for their own benefit or like.
