There are many different aspects to human emotions, causing many different attitudes to form toward different things. There is sexuality, human nature, or relationship. Many human beings have many different sexualities, which will determine what relationships they will be in. Everyone goes through different stages in life and experiences many different things. Just like the poet Allen Ginsberg for example. He was a famous poet during the Beat Generation. The location is all across the United States. The first line of the story starts off with “I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked." The poem explains how Ginsberg has seen all the "best minds" of his generation get destroyed by lunacy. Ginsburg witnessed an aspect of emotion that led to a chaotic human behavior. One of those people that got destroyed by insanity is a man named Carl Solomon. Carl Solomon is a man Ginsburg met in the Columbia Presbyterian Psychiatric Institute, from 1949-1950 (Shmoop Editorial Team). Ginsburg explains that the "best minds" are wandering in the streets searching for an "angry fix" (Ginsberg, 1956). An "angry fix" is drugs, and the "best minds" are searching for drugs to help ease their anger and pain to alter their behaviors. The poem also says "who poverty and tatters " (Ginsberg, 1956) which explains that the people the poem is referring to are poor. The people also have a variety of religious cultures. The poem mentions Hebrew and Islamic culture. The “best minds” were kicked out of school due to their deranged behavior. They wrote immoral things all over their dorm room windows. Allen Ginsberg went through many stages of his life and were associated with the “best minds.” The “best minds” started to go insane by getting influenced by drugs, alcohol, and different sexual relationships. The poem has been written from a homosexual male perspective (Davis, 2009). The speaker had a relationship with a mental patient at the Rockland Mental Hospital who he met at another mental institution called the “Columbia Presbyterian Psychiatric Institute.” “Howl” is a long, chaotic poem comprised of three sections. Section one spoke about “who” went insane. Section two spoke about “what” drove the people insane. Section three was about Ginsberg’s support for his old friend Carl Solomon. There were many problems and bad influences going on during the Beat Movement that affected human nature.
