Each year, more than 350,000 people outside the hospital have cardiac arrest in the United States. The survival rate really depends on if CPR is given right away or not. Almost 90 percent of people who suffer from cardiac arrest die. Giving CPR within the first one minute makes a big difference because it can triple the person's survival rate. Even if you call 911 it takes about 8 minutes for them to get there and that could be way too late to start CPR. If CPR is not given within the first 5 or 6 minutes of cardiac arrest the person will suffer from major brain issues. Since the training for CPR has came out each year more and more people learn how to do it. But since 2010 the rate of how many people know CPR hasn't gone up that much. I think that this topic is important because the more people who know CPR the more people will survive. Since it is one of the leading causes of death in America more people should be trained for CPR. It is also important to have your knowledge of CPR updated because things have changed and people forget. What I would want to change is to have more people learn CPR because waiting for another trained professional to arrive won't always help. The red cross and other organizations have been training people throughout the years to learn and how to correctly give it. I think that they have been giving more people knowledge of it but it also needs to update other people who have forgotten.
