This research was conducted to repair communication breakdowns for children that are autistic. Researchers felt it was important to take a environmental perspective besides a developmental one for a number of reasons. Using environmental variables gave researchers the ability to observe different strategies to repair communication. The method used to carry out this study was for investigators to use variables such as, puzzles, Play Dough, books and other shapes to test their environmental perspective. The difference between a developmental perspective and an environmental one, is simple. Researchers want to pinpoint why these children have trouble communication. They want to detect if the environment influences humans. There were two boys that participated in this study; Ray and Ethan. Ray was diagnosed with autism, he showed communication delays and his social skills were very delayed also. Ethan was diagnosed after being apart of this study, but interesting enough, Ethan’s brother was diagnose with Autism before this study was conducted. Ethan would use different movements and gestures to communicate to his parents and other people. This study consisted of, one-on-one sessions; child and researcher. The children would have to participant in two different types of sessions, the first session was for looking for different protocols. The second session was conducted to observe different types of breakdowns. Breakdowns consist, if a child is asking questions while playing with the items or if they make gestures.
