Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…
I grew up in a neighborhood that most of the city didn’t know about. Then, I moved three times and lived in six different houses. Next, I went to a college that most people didn’t know about. Then, something happened that changed my life. Keep reading to see my falls, speed bumps, and victories.…

CRR #7 Observations: In the reading Our Town by Thornton Wilder I felt the feeling of being included in the audience because he gives us the layout at the beginning. Another detail that contributes to this feeling of being included is by having the stage manager speak directly to us. When he starts describing the town and how small it is it reminds me of Porterville and how nothing really happens there or here. I find it sad when the stage manager tells us about all the things Joe is going to accomplish but ends up dying in the war.…
On Friday the 10th of March 2000, I, Yohanny Rosario was born at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Wayne, New Jersey. Although I was born in a Wayne hospital, I have lived in the town of Haledon since I can remember. It is a small town with just one public school that siblings and I have attended from preschool all the way to the eighth grade. I am the youngest of four with one brother and two older sisters. Currently, I live with both my mother and father and just my eldest sister.…
What happens when you put a big city girl from Dallas in a small town like DeRidder Louisiana? Absolutely nothing. But what happens when the small town has a colorful scary secret? They say curiosity killed the cat but they never said it killed a person and from that logic I turned this tedious town into one of the most engrossing towns in Louisiana. Every year my family and I drive six long and enervating hours to our cousin’s house in DeRidder, in a small cube like car, with two large brothers and me in the middle.…
I am Azure Kennedy. I am eighteen years old and I am an only child. I grew up in a really small-town Ukiah, California and have lived there with my parents my entire life. I am so thankful to have grown up in without a doubt one of the most beautiful states in America. I lived an hour from the beach and an hour from the city.…
The play Our Town, illustrates the true meaning of small town living. When living in a small town, people see a familiar face wherever they go and know everyone’s business. The life in a small town can lack options for entertainment at times. A person living in a town such as Colby might fall into a daily routine. The citizens of Grover’s Corners live a basic life throughout the majority of the play.…
Not many people in the nation knew about the Ninth Ward in New Orleans before hurricane Katrina caused levee failure and catastrophic flooding. Just weeks before the hurricane in 2005, Waukesha Jackson celebrated the publishing of her book with the Neighborhood Story Project. The Neighborhood Story Project is a nonprofit organization in partnership with the University of New Orleans. Over the years they have sold about 50,000 books written by a wide selection of New Orleans voices. What Would the World Be Without Women:…
Adaptation of Our Town Of the three versions of Our Town that we viewed in class, the PBS 2003 version best portrayed what the author Thornton Wilder wanted. Our Town is quite a unique play due to the fact that unlike most play’s the Stage Manager is on the stage rather than behind the scenes. The Stage Manager is also a character in the play itself and acts as a narrator in the play, so he talks directly to the audience the majority of the time. This unique characteristic allows a director to make frequent creative choices that can create a variety of different versions of the play for audience members to view The NBC 1977 version of Our Town was not the least akin to what Thornton Wilder wanted, but it was my personal least favorite.…
One cool fall day a new family moved into the small town of Skidmore, Missouri. Skidmore is one of those small towns where everyone knows each other. Not one family has moved in or out of Skidmore in over twenty years. The Smith family bought the ole’ Miller mansion. They knew it would need some renovations, but decided to move in while they updated the already gorgeous home.…
Until I moved to the United States in 2011, I had spent my entire life in my home country. Due to this transition, I felt an immense amount of pressure since It was hard for me to immerse in a new culture, speak a new language, and build new friendships. But through these challenges, I constantly reminded myself of the reason I moved here and that is to attain an education and pave my way to success. So, I started looking for extracurricular activities that increased my chance of helping others, adapting to the new lifestyle, and developing new friendships that exposed me to many traditions and cultures I had been unaware of. Such opportunities have made me an open-minded person that helped me understand different perspectives that people have…
Reading your biography and about your passion has really moved me. I believe you are a talented tough girl who doesn’t ever give up. I chose to read about you not only because you are so unique, but the difference between your life and mine. You and I may have a few things in common however our differences distinguish us.…
When you are born, you get born into a family with certain circumstances whether it be your family is rich or poor. You also get race, sex and genes. You may turn out to be white and benefit from white privilege or you may be black and have to suffer from racism. Whatever your situation is, it was pre determined- you were not able to choose what you wanted to get born into. Someone can be born into a poor family that gets harassed every day because of their race, BUT, they control their own happiness.…
It’s not easy, growing up in the south as an African-American girl. I couldn't help the color of my skin, and I couldn't change that I was born into a poor, black family, but that was just the way it was. Growing up how and where I did may not have been easy, but I wouldn’t change a thing because that shaped me into one of the most admired African-American writers in working today. (Biography).…
