Myths teach us morals, they explain the unexplainable, and they strive to teach us about human nature. In this essay we will be looking at the myth of Heracles and the short story of Tucker. The myth of Heracles is about the son of a mortal women and a god (a demigod). He strives to be a god, but to do so, he must pass twelve challenges named The Twelve Labors. On the other hand Into The Storm a story where a small young boy -Tucker- who wants to join the coast guard. It the story a friendly ghost named Richard helps tucker realize his dreams.
The moral in the myth of Heracles is that you should always stand strong and always have perseverance. Heracles (a demigod) stands strong even though he has a goddess (Hera sister and wife of Zeus, Queen on Olympus and Goddess of marriage and family) fighting against him. Hera drives Heracles mad and has him kill his own family this is why he does the 12 labors. Tucker is always teased about being short he is called names like squirt and shrimp. His best friend LaShana Mae was also teased as we can see in this quote “ I was just a skinny girl with braids and braces. Kids called me wires and that infuriated me. So tucker and i had a lot in common.” The message in Into the storm is similar to Heracles stay strong and fight for what you want. It also has do do with no matter your religion your race or even height you can still accomplish great things.
