The process of self-cultivation involves working towards expelling the worms that cause illnesses. People must also avoid grains that may harbor these illness-causing worms. Physical health is also considered an act of purity while those with sicknesses are believed to have fallen sick due to their misdeeds. The sick must, therefore, confess their sins and renounce their misdeeds to be cured and considered clean.
