Research Question: Will seventh grade science students have higher achievement when taught using a team teaching strategy?
Sub questions
1. How did team teaching math and science concepts impact student test scores?
2. To what extent did team teaching math and science concepts improve daily work grades?
Methodology
Subjects The subjects of this study are seventh grade students in a convenience sample from the researcher’s classroom. The students are the lowest achieving mathematically within their seventh grade class. The sample size will consist of approximately 14 students, …show more content…
The design of this study will be a quasi-experimental action research collecting quantitative data. The study will produce data showing the academic achievement of the students throughout the course and focus primarily on units that have a science-math emphasis. The grades of each student on their post-unit assessments and daily work will provide this data. The independent variable of this study is team teaching and the responding variable is student achievement. Currently, seventh grade students at the school the researcher works at are required to take science. Many of the students who are low-achieving in math struggle in science because of some math emphasis. Many of these students are in general math. This is the standard math course for students entering seventh grade that have the lowest standardized math scores. To better serve students who have difficulty in math and science, the school has implemented a science course and is team teaching this course with math. Students in math will also be enrolled in science and the teachers of the courses will develop curriculum/instruction and team-teach the classes to benefit the students and enhance
