In addition to “faithfully executing all laws” Article II of the Constitution tells the American people along with the elected representatives that “The president shall be commander in chief of the army and navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states…”If a former president passed legislature that prevents or presents a roadblock to the current president, the current president must do what is necessary to act as commander in chief. This notion allows the president to elude impeachment because he is respecting the duties of the president set forth in the Constitution. The president shall not enforce a law that prevents him from acting as commander in chief since this would be unconstitutional. Forfeiting responsibilities as important as leading the armed forces would lead to the demise of our nation and discredit the office tremendously. The president should explain in his address to the people of America the importance of the role of acting as commander in chief. All clauses, responsibilities, and powers listed in the Constitution carry extreme weight and take precedence over all political desires. If a law infringes on the powers and responsibilities listed in Article II, then it is imperative that the president does not enforce these laws, even if Congress did pass them.
