One of the most controversial decisions in American history was Harry S. Truman’s decision to use atomic bombs on Japan during World War II. On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima and killed between 70,000 and 80,000 Japanese people. After three days, another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki and killed 70,000 people immediately. Radiation from the bombs led to extensive damage as well. The Japanese then chose to surrender on September 2 which marked the end of the great war.…
Stanford I agree, the article is informative and made you have an open mind about the possibility of a “dirty bomb” attack in a highly populated area. Even though the threat level is low, we must stay prepared for incidents of this nature to minimize injuries in any area. As stated in the NRC Dirty Bomb Fact Sheet terrorist has sparked interest in obtaining materials that can be used to make dirty bombs; however, Barot nor Amin had the opportunity to carry out their plans forward to an operational stage, and their arrest demonstrates the interest in attacks of this type. The US News wrote an article about questioning how easy it is to steal radioactive materials from nuclear facilities.…
Picture this. You’re at a peaceful anti-war protest on a college campus in Ohio. Then national guards show up armed and ready to threaten the protesters, whom are college students, or even stop them. To find out about the tragedy on that awful day, you need to know how it started, what happened and who did it, and what happened for the aftermath and why we still know of it today. To begin, there is always a reason for protesting no matter what it is.…
usage of the atomic bombs was militarily unnecessary and immoral. Furthermore, it lead to the extensive loss of civilian life, therefore making these bombings justifiable only to a lesser extent. However, supporters of the bombings generally are of the opinion that they were instrumental in the Japanese surrender. These supporters also believe that the bombings were beneficial in preventing casualties on both sides, and helped in protecting America from further attacks, especially by Japan. Even before the atomic bombs were dropped, Japan’s surrender was imminent (Source B, Extract 1).…
Mark Twain makes numerous social critisisms and commentaries though Adventures of Huck Fin in 1885 that continue to carry meaning into 2017: for example, the social dogma of education and the impact it has on our youth, as well as, the racial tension society had back in the 1800’s and to this day in 2017. First of all, quoting page 2 of Adventures of Huck Fin, Twain says through the use of Huckleberry Fin that “Then she told me all about the bad place, and I said I wished I was there. She got mad. Then, but I didn’t mean no harm… all I wanted was a change.” Connecting this to the social dogma of education by showing that having a different opinion or thought between another person or is people…
In American culture, if people don 't have those things, then they are seen as failures. To avoid being a failure, most people are willing to do whatever it takes to become “successful”. The author also states that the American college student focuses more on the social aspect of college rather than the education part. Edmundson believes that students no longer take their grades seriously which can lead to professors not caring enough to put forth effort into their jobs. The thought of failure drives people to do things that maybe they wouldn’t do if they thought they would succeed, like cheating on a test.…

Reading Response 1 In 2001, the United States Congress enacted the “No Child Left Behind Act”, the purpose is for all students, no matter the age, to gain basic life skills and enter the workforce. Though not a requirement, students look for a higher level of education. Megan Balduf explains how college students are not prepared for higher education in “Underachievement Among College Student”. Although excellent students in high school, as soon as they enter a college 50 percent of students are not prepared for the advanced workload and constant studying that the institution entails.…
The debate of whether earning a college degree is worth it is one that has plagued the nation for decades. While both sides of the debate offer legitimate points, the whole fiasco can leave a teenager, who is already dealing with the stresses of high school and adolescence, extremely pressured, confused, and overwhelmed. Luckily, there are people willing to provide data and guidance to help students decide what they see fit for their future. American journalist and columnist, David Leonhardt, works to persuade his audience that a college degree is a worthy investment in his article, “Is College Worth It? Clearly, New Data Say.”…

Sam Wilson, a physicist yelled,” zero.” The countdown ended and the bomb was to explode shortly (78).…
