Gerald is a hero because even though he knew he was risking his life, he never stopped himself from saving his sister and comforting her. After not knowing what Gerald could do to help, he finally told someone about the things Jordan did to him and Angel and put him in jail. Gerald showed heroism because he had the courage to do the right thing, even though if it went wrong his life would be in danger. Also, in the end of the book, Gerald runs into his burning apartment to save Angel once again. This was hard for him because of his past experiences with fire, but he knew that it was the right thing to do and he knew what Jordan was doing to her. He could have easily cowered out, but instead he was heroic and endured his aversion and darted into the apartment that was being eaten by flames. While trying to save her, Jordan tried to kill Gerald, broke his leg and injured him substantially, and yet, Gerald continued to fight. He got to his sister who was unconscious, and started to try and find a way out of the house. He wanted to just let the fire
