Giving the new mother pamphlets of information gives her resources to go back and look at later when she is not so overwhelmed with information. During the patients labor she is often distracted with pain, cervical checks, and interventions to prevent complications during her labor so she may not retain or understand everything that is being taught to her during that time.
B. Also explain to the mother that the teaching channel in the hospital postpartum rooms also goes over the same information that the pamphlets contain; therefore, she can watch the information on the television also if she wishes to do so.
III. Explain to the mother that the hepatitis B vaccine (Recombivax HB, Engerix-B) includes antibodies that against the hepatitis B virus. The vaccine is in a series if three and if the mother is hepatitis B negative during labor it is encouraged that the child receive the vaccine before discharge to protect against the virus.
