The slave is there to assist the master with maintaining of the masters wants and needs. Since the master depends on the slave for everything, the slave becomes more disciplined, stronger, and acquires more skill. After the slave has obtained all the skills and the discipline, his power balances that of the master. Initially, the master controls the slave and the master is independent; the slave is controlled by the master and the slave is dependent. Now things are equal between the master and the slave because through hardship the slave has acquired more knowledge.
