What type of people come in and out of the facility? Is the staff wanting to eat healthier? When making a decision like this especially if it’s connected to the facility makes the decision making processes a little difficult. As mentioned before, I personally would not switch over solely due to the fact that people do associate health with the freshness of the foods and where they are coming from. If it’s a close community those living there might not feel comfortable with you switching over either. Buying locally is good for the community economy which could play a role in the decision making process of the healthcare foodservice director. There are many factors that are coming into play when deciding to switch over from locally to national distributors.
To further my knowledge and research on this matter I called IU Health and asked to speak to a food service manager. After getting transferred through a few number and departments, I was able to speak to Justin Hessener. Justin is a foodservice manager for IU. He stated that IU currently works with both local and national. After hearing this I asked if size had anything to do with that decision.
