Road Safety & Transport (RTA) have advertised a numerous amount of health promotion initiatives. These campaigns’ help engage the community to change and become aware of unsafe behavior on the roads. The two health promotions this essay will focus on are Don’t rush (How sorry will you be) which aims to inform people about speeding and the consequences it could bring & Double demerits (Think twice before breaking the rules) encourages drives to drive safely on the roads. It reminds drives that during double demerit periods the consequences’ for breaking road rules are more severe.

Decline in road accidents means hospitalization rates aren’t as high. The scare tactic of the Double Demerits campaign is also effective, it forces drivers to be aware and abide by the road rules if they don’t want to risk their license being taken off them. The initiative are worth the effort and cost as it is preventing mortality rates to increase. The social justice principals aren’t all met with these initiatives. Supportive environments’ isn’t created as such as these initiatives are aimed at the individual more then others. Equity isn’t met as such because the consequences of breaking rules can depend on the mood of the officer and the level of offence committed.
