Most gun charges are treated as a misdemeanor until a more serious crime is committed by a criminal. They should be treated more aggressively opposed to how gun charges are handled presently. President Obama stated “We know that states with the most gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths. So the notion that gun laws don’t work, or just will make it harder for law-abiding citizens and criminals [to] still get their guns is not borne out by the evidence.”(Lori Robertson,2015), and according to an article called “Gun violence Archive” there has been 261 gun related deaths in the last 72 hours in the USA. This supports how the lack of gun legislation is taking a toll on America and because of this the homicide rates are raising. From more of a personal perspective, in 2014 Robert Lawrence Ransom Jr. was charged with the murder, kidnapping and rape of two women, the murder of a child and kidnapping of a minor. One of the murders happened to be one of my closets cousins. These murders occurred shortly after Ransom was released from jail on a gun related charge. Maybe if gun charges and gun legislation were treated more aggressively, things of this matter wouldn’t
