Throughout time, the United States has had a bad history of violent shootings. Some shootings that stand out are Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, and Columbine. The most recent shooting was at Sandy Hook Elementary school. On December 14th, 2012 a 20-year-old named Adam Lanza went into Sandy Hook and killed 20 first graders and six adults. Lanza killed his mother at their home before the shooting rampage and killed himself after the shooting at the scene. One of the more well known shooting was the Columbine shooting on April 20, 1999. Two students at Columbine High named Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold went open fire at their school, killing 12 students and injuring 24 others before killing themselves (Spooner 3). Ex- president Bill Clinton described it the best when he said, “The Columbine shooting has shaken the nation from its very core” (Spooner 4). One of the more brutal shootings was as Virginia Tech when a 23-year-old student went on a rampage and killed 32 people in a dorm and academic building. He also shot himself at the scene. The United States doesn’t have a great history when it comes to gun violence. The United states carries the highest gun crimes committed every year with 400,000. Along with that we carry the highest rate of firearm deaths between twenty-five nations. Across the world, 86% of the deaths to children under the age of 15 are caused by guns. Also, every year in America, guns are used to kill more than 30,000 people and injure over 70,000 (Lupkin 2). These statistics on gun violence have only risen over the
