Let us start with the introduction of Christine Spencer, who is a dedicated student that does not focus solely on skills and knowledge for a competitive edge, but maintaining an A-average, as well. Although Christine possess great qualities, such as organization skills and motivation, that give her potential to be a good leader; she could take a few leadership courses to improve herself. She liked to maintain an A-average for that competitive edge, but was worried because her grade in the Organizational Behavior course was mostly based off the quality of group work. An effective group leader would not be worried about the quality of work done because each individual would have played a part in making the project a success, even if, like Mike, a member did not always have time to meet with the group as a whole. Mike had excuses for every meeting he missed, even ones that were not scheduled and he just happened to show up when everyone else had already ran into each other. These include the time in class before the professor got to class, Diane, Steve, Janet, and Christine were joking around and Mike stayed unseen walking into class as the professor did. Also, there was an incident in the cafeteria when Christine was walking by and saw some group members sitting together; she joined and as they were talking, Mike walked in. When he was asked to join he blew them off by saying “Yeah… right,” and walked away. (Schermerhorn et al., 2012) To be an effective leader, you have to be responsive to the group’s needs. (University Alliance, 2016) You have to see when something is wrong. Be observant. Had Christine made attempts to resolve these problems, Mike may have assisted more in the group work.
