Cultures Paper Greece For my cultures paper I chose Greece, a country within southeast, Europe. Greece has thousands of islands and multiple seas around it. The most important thing about Greece is their history; ancient and present day. Their history is split between seven different periods. Them being Neolithic, Helladic, Ancient Greece, Roman Greece, Byzantine Greece, Ottoman Greece, and Modern Greece. All which play an important role it the countries history. Greece has many cities now but only a few were around during this period. Ones such as Athens, Sesklo, Dimini and Nea Nikomedeia. Athens contains one of the oldest areas in Greece which is the Cave of Schist, this place shows facts that people lived in this area during this period in time. Pre- Pottery was another important aspect in the Neolithic period. They had come up with a way to fire the clay to make clay pots, which had not been discovered yet. They were able to improve what they already knew by the end of this period. Things such as better farming tactics and architecture. The Helladic period, also known as the Bronze Age follows after the Neolithic period. This period had many high points to take a look at. Achievements such as political, philosophical, scientific, and artistic. Like in the Helladic period, these achievements made what the Western European Culture is today. In 776 BC is when the first Olympic Games were held. The religion grew and developed for 1000’s of years. The Greeks believed in myths or folktales. They had Olympian Gods and Goddesses such as Poseidon,God of Seas, Zues, King of Gods, and Athena, Goddess of Wisdom. They believed and thought about these Gods and Goddesses. Athens became the birth place of democracy, which was the government by the people. Women then were not allowed to vote, and they didn't have much of any political say at this time.
