Lord of the Flies Character Summary To begin with, one major character in the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding is named Ralph. His hair is quite fair. He is friends with another character called by the name of piggy. At the beginning of chapter it starts off with the conversation of the two boys talking about being in the middle of a war and how a plane gets shot down on a deserted island and the boys get lost and cannot find the pilot. The boys will have to figure out a way to find the others and get off the Island as well as some friends will turn against one another because of bad influence of peers. This ties in with Golding’s theory that if left alone, human nature will naturally be pulled to the id side of one’s personality. Shut up," said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. "Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things." Ralph pushed Piggy to one side. “I was chief, and you were going to do what I said." (4.132-133). this paragraph indicates how social status can change a person attitude towards another person. Even though Piggy’s attitude towards Ralph was still nice, Ralph preceded to act as if piggy meant nothing to him. "Then we must go as we are," said Ralph, "and they won't be any better." Eric made a detaining gesture." But they'll be painted! You know how it is." The others nodded. They understood only too well the liberation into savagery that the concealing paint brought. (11.63-66). in this paragraph these quotes is showing how ralph has changed and how others follow him and how ralph is turning into a whole other person.
In conclusion, Overall ralph from “Lord of the Flies” started off as a good person but then changed because of the status his friends made him. This really shows how people can really betray one another simply because Mother Nature allows
