Global warming also has a possibility to cause indirect effects like higher vehicle miles. Higher vehicle miles are the outcome of shorter winters because less snow falling on the roads means people drive more miles.
While everything previously mentioned has been negative, there is one advantage of future global warming in Maine. Related to Maine experiencing shorter winters, we can expect less winter maintenance. This will save money that can possibly offset the expenditures of future global warming. Expenditures can include repairing roads from erosion or raising transportation infrastructure near the cost.
Other than repairing damaged infrastructure, engineers also have to modify current infrastructure that do not stand up to future climate change.

According to Maine’s Climate Future, a 2009 report by the University of Maine, between 1958 and 1970 the Northeast has seen a more that 70% increase in precipitation during very heavy rainfall events. This increase in precipitation leads to erosion and sometimes even roads washing out in the event of heavy precipitation and flooding. For example after record-setting rains in August of 2014, the Town of Freeport faced $100,000 in damages while the Town of Brunswick faced $200,000 in damages due to washed-out roads, collapsed culverts, and blocked storm
