All is true but in the arena only the pretentious survive. Mostly men fought in the colosseum, but when women did they were a glorious spectacle and were honored. “When we think of gladiators in ancient Rome we tend to stereotype and think of men – warriors or slaves” “But interestingly female slaves were also forced into the pit to fight alongside their male counterparts”. Female warriors were made to do certain strange things according to the crowds or the king’s liking because of their rare sightings. “Emperor Domitian preferred, to pit them against dwarves for his particular entertainment”. “Women fought in gladiator fights for 200 years until Emperor Septimius Severus banned their participation from these bloodthirsty games”. Dwarves were considered to be symbols of sorcery so they would force hundreds of them to fight against gladiators for entertaining purposes. “The gladiators were paired off to fight each other, usually to the number of about 100 couples, although in the imperial shows there were sometimes as many as 5,000 pairs”. Stated by Epicurus. That this quote perfectly describes gladiators as a whole. They felt like their life was a piece of art so they took a chance to prove it in the arena. For some this decision was an easy one and others needed time to think, but those who did either became heroes or died as heroes. In Conclusion the gladiators had it hard, but were persistent to survive. They wore unique uniforms and fought their hearts out. In the arena they released animal and even dwarfs yet some still survived. They worked their way up from being slaves to being rich landowners.
