After Lennie and George decide their dream with Candy, George tells Candy “Then you and Lennie could go get her started an’ I’d get a job an’ make up the res’ an’ you could sell eggs an’ stuff like that” (60). Here we can see that their dream is to get a ranch or farm of their own, as Candy and Lennie support the farm from the ‘inside’, George had plans to support it from the ‘outside’. After George leaves with the other men to go to town, Lennie stays in the barn and sees Crooks light on and goes in and Crooks takes the chance to give Lennie a taste of how his life has been, Crooks tells Lennie that George has went to town and is not coming back, however Lennie knows that this is not true, “he won’t do it, George wouldn’t do nothing like that, I been with George a long time, he’ll come back tonight” (71). Lennie knows that George will return for him because he knows that they have a closer relationship than most men, and have something to strive for. When George and Lennie are walking to the ranch, Lennie found a mouse on the side of the road and ‘jus’ wanted to pet it’ George told Lennie “Tell you what I’ll do, Lennie. When Lennie gets to the pool of water where he and George plan to spend the night, he dunks his head in the pool and George warns him “Lennie. You gonna be sick like you was last night”(3). George was looking after Lennie and making sure Lennie does not get sick like he was before. When George was making beans for his and Lennie’s supper, Lennie explains how he likes ketchup with his beans, George tells him that they can’t afford it and how he always wants what they can’t have, Lennie replies with “But I wouldn’t eat none George. I’d leave it all for you. You could cover your beans with it and I wouldn’t touch none of it”(12). Lennie is expressing how he would give it all to George if it would make him happy even though that is the best way he would like
