Lab Name: Genes in Human Population lab
Page number: 57-66
Purpose of the lab: The purpose of this lab was to work with a partner and identify your partners and as well as your own phenotype and genotype. We did that by deeply observing our bodies and then determining whether we have the following traits. PTC, Darwin’s ear point, ear lobe attachment, hitchhiker’s thumb, widow’s peak, second finger shorter than fourth, bent little finger, mid digital hair, red green color blindness, and tongue rolling. We then made punnet squares by showing all the possible genotype and phenotype outcomes. Apart from …show more content…
To the identification of several of the major loci and polymorphisms responsible. There is a high degree of variation in color, the amount and type of melanin pigment, and skin type (responsiveness to UV exposure) apparent between and within human populations. Though only those with European ancestry show a large range of hair and eye colors. This recent discovery of important pigmentation determining genes has been made through a combination of genetic, biochemical and cellular approaches. But, undoubtedly it has been the ready access to the complete human genome sequence and documentation of a vast number of single nucleotide polymorphisms in several populations that is responsible for this expanding …show more content…
For example, I had a darwin’s ear point on my right ear. Whereas, my partner did not have a darwin’s ear point. We also noticed that all the other nine traits were common between my partner and I. I was a little surprised to see that all traits except one were common even though we look so different from one another.
