Society has always portrayed the ideas of male above female, man above women, and boy above girl. This concept has been carried out for centuries and Americans have programmed unconsciously to conform to this type of thinking. This gender hierarchy can be seen all around us with the many signs shown in the media of this idea. In the article "Gender Hierarchy In The Space: The Role Of Gender Status In Shaping The Spatial Agency Bias." written by both Andrea Carnaghi they explain that, “Indeed, people expect that in a male-female pair the male will target and will occupy a high-status role, while the female target will endorse a low-status role” ( Carnaghi 3).
