“One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” This line states that we are all one nation, no matter your race, sexuality, religion, or gender. My vision for America is that someday we can all start living by the pledge of allegiance. Did you know that, starting at a young age, black children face inequality in their schools? Even after the government made school integration mandatory, studies show that many schools were still divided by race and gender. The studies concluded that black girls were suspended at higher rates than all other girls and most white boys.…
Feminism has an extensive history of fighting for equal rights for both men and women. In the 1840s, many women had ideas of how to achieve equality with men, but the first step began on July 19 and 20, 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York at the first Women’s Conference (Feminism and Women's Studies). Issues these women were campaigning for are issues that are still relevant today. These issues including easier access to higher education, more advanced professions, and equal pay (Feminism and Women's Studies). Although access to higher education and advanced professions has improved, women continue to fight for equal pay to this day, making it a 170 year battle.…
Over the years women have been seen as a man’s property. A man has always known that his perceived natural rights entail a wife, her body, children, and a job. Essentially a twisted form of the American Dream right, but what if the clock is sped up to when women start gaining the confidence to fight for their rights? History has witnessed women gaining the right to vote, the ability to work alongside men, and to have their own house without a husband. For the next century women slowly gained recognition along with rights until the controversy over the funding of Planned Parenthood arose.…

Abortion another big issue when it comes to women’s rights, where is the line drawn, is a women not allowed to abort a fetus that she did not want or ask for? Where is the line drawn? In our new world men and women are treated equal and have the same rights, but it hasn’t always been this way. Women have struggled to work their way up in order to receive recognition as to having the same rights as men. Certain rights, are of great importance since it empowers someone of such ability or freedom, such as the right to vote. This right allowed women to have a role in public society and have a say on who will represent their Legal forums.…
The Men We Carry in Our Minds Gender equality has been a very popular subject scattered throughout the years. Many historic events have been achieved in the last century. The 1920s women were given the right to vote. Now in 2016, nearly one hundred years later a woman is running for president.…

Inequality is a concept that has been around for centuries and it applies to many areas of human life such as education, income, and in some cases certain rights. Today many people are concerned about this concept of inequality and how it relates to people economically. There have been countless numbers of initiatives to close the gap between the different socio-economic classes. Having a more progressive tax system and raising minimum wage are the two most common tools that the public look to in order to make our society more equal.…
Life a century ago was starkly different—for many different reasons. Specifically speaking, the role of women and men have changed for the better, to say the least. Currently, women are viewed as equal to men, or close to equal to some ignorant people. If women were to be compared to men over one hundred years ago, however, this would not be the case. Women, in the past, were often viewed as subsequent to men.…
Issues of gender and power have been a common theme in society dating back as far as Athens in 411 B.C.E. when the Peloponnesian War between the Athenian Empire and Sparta was taking place. Women of this time period were considered pre-civilized, cannibals, dangerous, and most importantly, less valued than men. Throughout history and in our culture today much of the privilege and power that men have over women is unearned. Why is it that men have enjoyed unearned privilege based on their gender? Through Artemisia Gentileschi’s Susanna and the Elders published in Italy in 1610 C.E. and William Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew printed in Britain in 1612 C.E. it is visible that inequalities between men and women have been prevalent for centuries all over the globe.…
Quality of Equality Since the U.S. became a country in 1776, the country has struggled to establish true equality. There have been great strides from voting rights among African Americans, immigration acts, and many other equality movements, but one of the largest battles that has been going on for a long time is the struggle for Women's rights. As a result, gender roles have changed significantly throughout the U.S. as women gain more power and independence. Daniel Defoe in “An Academy for Women,” wrote about the difference in gender roles as women were taught only the simple tasks of writing their own names, and sometimes reading, but not much else was expected from females or even allowed (Defoe). As men wanted to stay superior, education for women was not very prevalent.…
Annotated Bibliography It is a fact that in the past a gap has existed in the financial earning abilities of both men and women. This disparity has been perpetuated through time as a symptom of the cultures that occupied their times. This discrimination of genders has and will be for some time to come, a hurdle to overcome. Throughout history there have been many examples of gender inequality and male dominance. For years, women have been dominated by their male counterparts. They have experienced heartbreak and vulnerability as a result of control and power from their significant others. Eventually, in the 19th century a revolution took place and women got the right to vote, they joined the workforce and overall became more independent. As feminism grew throughout Western society in the 21st century, women felt empowered, more self-confident and on the same playing field as men.…
The twenty-first century has brought justice to many social injustices that plague our world. Among these are the injustices seen every day in gender discrimination. The late 1800’s saw the first signs of change for the status of women with the Women’s Suffrage Movement; women had no say in national politics and their opinions were unheard because they did not have any rights. This movement was the first step to change in the battle for equality lasting over 100 years. Since then women have slowly gained more rights, however there is still a long way to go in order to fully change the gender stereotypes and treatment of women.…
Introductory Paragraph A. The actuality is that our society wants to gender inequality. Our history has shown that men want to be in control of everything. We place gender specific roles on male and female because our long history of men dominating can’t be easily replaced. In many countries around the world, including the United States of America, we question and raised concerns about a women’s place in male dominated world whether it’s a work place, at home or in public.…
