Mostly the traditional garden in China has a crescent door as it is mainly found in many other pavilions along the garden. A well-known Chinese proverb states that "Individuals have distress and satisfaction; they part and meet once again. The moon diminishes or sparkles; it waxes or melts away." It is noted that Chinese people constantly relate a full moon with a contended life. This importance can be found inside a traditional Chinese garden building component called the "moon gate." Research methods
An integrated review of literatures contributes to window and door histories and techniques in Chinese traditional garden will be the first step for this study. Modern articles from built environment, art history, garden history, archeology, architecture and existing survey will be scrutinized in a literature review. The researcher will search academic sources from British Library. Researcher will investigate sources about records of Ningbo traditional garden like the owners and engineers of gardens.
This study will survey on County Annals, which are published or online and can be enquired with key words by visiting websites of gardens and write to garden owners to investigate a wide-range of gardens in order to select locations for detailed survey. In this way, fieldwork will be conducted on site such as observation and measure. Data of the survey will all be collected.
