Their role is to comprehensively promote the company’s culture of compliance and ethics without forgetting that the main concern for a big corporation is doing business and making money. The second level of the company that oversees the ethical conduct of the company is the General Counsel, it is working with every departments to ensure an effective compliance program on every level. Finally the compliance program is overseen by a committee of senior management and the audit Committee of the board of directors to make that sure that it reaches the highest sphere of the company. I really believe that what Ford is doing with having many layers of people overseeing their Ethical policy is amazing. It gives them the ability to reach every single employee of the company. The ethical concepts that the Ford Motor Company is adopting are all about sustainability and what they call the triple bottom line approach. The triple bottom line approach consist of keeping the company financially sustainable, reducing its negative environmental impact and improving the societal well-being around the company. The top managers believe that a company that is not financially viable and sustainable won’t be there long enough to create a real impact on their industry which I believe is a very interesting point. Focusing more on the long term viability of the company as an ethical policy might reduce their short term profits but could increase their long term investments. The company is also concerned with giving back to communities, which again serves their interest because it gives them a very nice brand image as well as making their employees and consumers happier. Lastly, like every automobile manufacturer that is trying to live in its time and prepare the future, Ford is trying to have a great impact on the environment. Again, this serves a double purpose, anticipating the future regulations might save them some money as well as giving them a very good marketing argument.
