The adrenal glands are the producers of epinephrine in the body, most commonly known as adrenaline. In stressful situations your adrenal glands secrete adrenaline into your blood, increasing your heart rate, muscle strength, blood pressure and sugar metabolism, while also starting the flight-or-fight response in the brain. The flight part of the response is when your instinct is to disassociate yourself from the situation, trying to leave or avoid it.
