Forest Lake State High School provides educational programs for over 1400 students in years 7-12 in a coeducational environment. The school comprises of a junior secondary school (years 7,8 and 9) and a senior school (years 10,11 and 12). The school has identifiable cultural groups of Polynesians, africans and vietnamese along with European Australians. Many students come from a low to middle socio-economic background. Sport at FLSHS consists predominantly around the football codes of rugby laugher, soccer and touch football. These along with basket ball and volleyball make up the sporting backbone of the school. Swimming does not feature strongly as a sport at FLSHS but there is an annual swimming carnival which is supported by a small percentage of students. Swimming is a part of the curriculum with HPE offering swimming to only year 10 extension HPE classes and year 11 and 12 Physical Education classes. Theses classes are not compulsory to the student Population.
Figueroa’s Framework: Figueroa’s Framework is a structure created by Peter Figueroa containing 5 separate levels that display factors within society that influences a persons engagement and participation in sports and physical activity. Peter created this framework to make access to sport fairer and easier for everyone. This report will particularly focus particularly on 2 of the levels of the framework, The individual and interpersonal levels.. The interpersonal level is the way you are influenced by surrounding people for example your class mates, friends, coaches, role models and most importantly family
