For example, after someone watches a scary movie, the fear they experience lingers in their mind hours or even days after watching it, causing them to act differently, or change the way they do certain things, The beast causes a similar effect to fear in The Lord of the Flies, as it is introduced very early on in the story, and continues to play a major role all the way until the end,by leading to the breakdown of organization in the group, enticing the boys into savagery, and causing the boys to be fearful, all of which contradict their ordinary behavior. Although the beast turned out to be a hoax, the idea of there being one on the island with the boys practically drove them to insanity.
