In Randell and other authors’ article, they focused on the topic of the highest leading factor for youths’ death, suicide. They pointed out the fact that suicide is not related with past or future attempts, and then discussed the heavy association between family conflicts and suicide (Randell, Wang, Herting, & Eggert, 2006). In example, if families have dysfunction problems, negative relationships, low caring in family, and family goal not met, the likelihood of suicide increase dramatically (Randell, Wang, Herting, & Eggert, 2006). Randell and other authors’ points correspond perfectly with the other two articles, which serve an even stronger evidence to back up the idea of good family relationship reduce suicide rate. In Randell and other authors’ article, their methods are questionnaires, interviews, and surveys, and their primary targets are high school drop outs. In conclusion of their findings, they locked on family as the primary factor for suicide rate. Even small things within family such as an argument would weaken a family’s connection, and would increase the risk of suicidal behaviours. As a whole, they looked at family as the primary cause for the high suicide rate. They targeted conflicts and poor relationships within the family, which could be cause by alcohol, stressful family matters, and minimal communications. These conflicts build up over time, and with their methods of survey and isolating single factor, they find that these conflicts have a strong correlation with suicide rate. They strongly suggested that this situation should not be taken lightly and it could also be reduce by some simple methods.
